As part of a partnership with the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Sallie Mae Fund, and Youth Venture, MTV has formed MTV Tr3s Voces (Voices), a campaign that aims to empower Latino youth to graduate from high school and prepare for college, work, and life. The campaign is part of MTV’s mission to help young Latinos in the U.S. be heard, and in response to the alarming rate at which Latinos are dropping out of high school.
The voces of young Latinos across the U.S. will be heard throughout this campaign in three ways:
• The largest video-based online community dedicated to Latino education
• On air at MTV Tr3s through public service announcements and news stories
• Community events nationwide through The Sallie Mae Fund's Paying For College Bus Tour
In partnership with the National Council of La Raza's Líderes Initiative, MTV Tr3s Voces is a one-stop shop for academic and community resources that Latino youth need to prepare themselves for success in high school and beyond. The NCLR Líderes Initiative is designed to increase the number, capacity, and influence of young Latino leaders in the United States by building a national network that supports and strengthens programs and organizations that develop Latino youth. Líderes uses a strategic, institutional-building approach to leadership development. Líderes supports hundreds of local, community-based programs and campus-based student organizations that serve Latino youth. By strengthening our community leadership infrastructure, Líderes can amplify the collective impact of thousands of young Latinos, and build a national movement.
MTV Tr3s Voces, in partnership with Youth Venture and The Sallie Mae Fund, will give away video cameras online at mtv3voces.com and on the road with The Sallie Mae Fund's Paying for College Bus Tour. Young people will film their hopes, fears, and suggested ideas to help them and their friends prepare to graduate from high school and head to college. Those videos will be featured on the Voces website and some may even air on MTV Tr3s!
Tu Voz My Venture- $1,000 grants given away every week
In partnership with Youth Venture, MTV Tr3s Voces will give away every week for six months $1,000 grants to groups of young Latinos that have new and creative ideas for after-school programs, organizations, clubs, or other ventures that will help Latino youth graduate from high school and prepare for college.
