The NCLR ALMA Awards honors outstanding Latino artistic achievement in television, film, and music and the enhancement of the Latino image in the entertainment industry. The show has established a following around the country and has made inroads for Latinos in Hollywood both in front of and behind the camera. NCLR created the ALMA Awards in 1995 as part of its strategy to promote fair, accurate, and balanced portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment industry. The show was named "ALMA" (Spanish for "spirit" or "soul") which represents the determined spirit of the Latino people in an effort to reflect the spirit as well as the scope of the awards program.
The 2007 NCLR ALMA Awards was a spectacular show with some of the most amazing performances we've seen yet! We had special performances by Prince and Beyoncé and surprise guest appearances by Sheila E and Salma Hayak who dropped in for the celebration. We also had two special tributes in the show - Special Achievement in Television presented to George Lopez and Pioneer in Music presented to Los Lobos.
