The National Council of La Raza's (NCLR) Líderes Initiative is a national program designed to create opportunities for Latino youth that will elevate their influence as leaders in the United States.

Heroes and Heritage
Manassas, Virginia
Heroes and Heritage was founded in 1995 with the mission of highlighting and celebrating the contributions of Hispanics to the defense of the U.S. over the past 200 years. Heroes and Heritage achieves this mission through three key activities: a youth scholarship program, educational seminars and forums relating to Hispanics in the military, and an historical traveling exhibit. The board and volunteers of Heroes and Heritage are active and retired military personnel who have developed a unique understanding of the U.S. military and its procedures and processes, as well as valued relationships. As a result, Heroes and Heritage serves as a resource to Hispanic families on all variety of matters relating to the military, including access, discrimination issues, and testing. Heroes and Heritage has successfully engaged in partnerships that promote programs and encourage growth.
United Hispanic Americans, Inc
Fort Wayne, Indiana
Founded in 1970, United Hispanic Americans, Inc. (UHA) serves to improve the quality of life for Hispanics in Northeast Indiana by providing social and cultural services and advocacy services, as well as promoting an understanding of Hispanic cultures, challenges, and opportunities. UHA operates the Benito Juarez Cultural Center, which is staffed with bilingual and bicultural individuals. The Benito Juarez Cultural Center provides programs and services such as immunizations, housing information assistance, immigration assistance, legal aid, transportation services, translation services, medical services, job search and assistance placement programs, educational programs, youth social development programs, and an Hispanic women’s program.
North Valley Caring Services

The mission of NVCS is to empower neighborhood residents to build a vision of their community's future and to actively engage in solving local problems.

NVCS provides a safe place for the community to gather, receive services, and share resources. NVCS' goals are to ensure that 1) parents in the community can provide their families with a safe and healthy home environment and 2) that disadvantaged children and youth develop physical health and positive self-esteem; complete their education; participate in wholesome activities; and transition into stable, thriving adulthoods. In addition, NCS offers access to resources and free breakfast & food pantry for homeless and poverty-striken families.
Eastmont Community Center

The Eastmont Community Center was founded in 1967 to serve the needs of the local community by involving persons of all ages as planners and participants in programs who seek to support individuals and enhance community relationships. In addition to providing emergency services such as food and clothing, housing, and job-search counseling, Eastmont offers daycare, educational programs for children and youth, youth services, adult literacy programs, and elderly services. In collaboration with NCLR’s Center for Community Educational Excellence (C²E²) programs, Eastmont operates Academia del Pueblo, an academic enrichment program, Parents as Partners, and Family Reading programs for their parents.

El Pueblo, Inc.

El Pueblo’s No Fumo: Youth Leadership Project works with North Carolina Latino youth groups across the state to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use. The goals of the project are to prevent initiation and promote cessation of tobacco use among youth, promote smoke-free environments, and eliminate health disparities related to tobacco use among Latinos. The No Fumo project is supported by the Health and Wellness Trust Fund and the Office of Minority Health. Our youth participate in a Spring and Youth Forum each year, as well as El Pueblo's premier event, La Fiesta del Pueblo.

Center for the Advancement of Hispanics in Science and Engineering Education (CAHSEE)

Over the past ten years, the Center for the Advancement of Hispanics in Science and Engineering Education (CAHSEE) has developed a system of programs geared at channeling, primarily Latino and other underrepresented minority, students into science and engineering careers. These programs have proven to be successful in preparing Latino and other underrepresented youth to enter and succeed in science and engineering schools. CAHSEE is a nonprofit organization registered in the District of Columbia with programs in Metropolitan Washington, New York, Chicago, Massachusetts, and California.
American YouthWorks
Austin, Texas
American YouthWorks is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Austin, Texas that is dedicated to empowering youth through education and green jobs training. We operate a public charter high school, a GED program, and three green jobs training and service programs: Casa Verde Builders, Environmental Corps, and Computer Corps. For more than thirty years, American YouthWorks has assisted thousands of local youth in transforming their lives through community service, education, and a commitment to preserving the natural environment.
