The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Líderes Initiative is hosting a Congreso in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Congreso attendees will be inspired and empowered, as they identify ways to increase their community involvement and become civically engaged. Bringing together more than 100 high school and college youth, the Congreso will feature peer-led workshops and guest speakers, including NCLR staff and community leaders, to inform and support the efforts of young Latinos. To facilitate mutual exchange and learning, the Congreso gives participants an opportunity to:
Build relationships with peers and community leaders
Learn how to maximize community impact
Network and explore career options
This Líderes Congreso will be held in conjunction with the events of the NCLR National Issue Briefing and Advocacy Day (March 5 and 6, 2008). NCLR’s National Issue Briefing and Advocacy Day is a two-day event that provides policy briefings on current issues affecting the Latino community. Event participants make visits with members of Congress and have the chance to network with other professionals that are making an impact at both the state and local level. On March 6th, Congreso attendees will be encouraged to participate in this larger NCLR event, and will be able to visit with members of Congress and network with other community advocates.* This year’s event comes at an influential time, as the power of the Latino electorate gains national attention.

* Please note, to participate in NCLR Advocacy Day activities on March 6th, you must attend the Congreso on March 5th. By registering for Advocacy Day, you are making a commitment to advocate for the NCLR issue agenda.
