Dia de Avance Latino y Enseñanza (¡DALE!) A National Day of Campus Action September 22-26, 2008 Access the 2008 ¡DALE! Toolkit
The toolkit is available for groups who would like guidance and support in developing an effort. The toolkit is in two parts:
1)Participating Campus Tool Kit
2)Nonpartisan Voter Registration Guide
¡DALE! (Día de Avance Latino y Enseñanza) has historically been an NCLR led effort for a national day of campus action. The goal of this nation-wide initiative is to promote advocacy for the Latino community, and to educate the public about the Latino presence in American society. ¡DALE! is more than just a week of awareness; it is an opportunity to address the concerns of the broader Latino community with students and members of the college campus community.
In 2007 the purpose of ¡DALE! was to encourage Latino students to engage their campus and community in civic engagement. Through our efforts, we managed to register more than 1200 people. This year, ¡DALE! will grow to be a national week of campus action. Because we realize just how important Latino youth will be in shaping the 2008 elections, we are encouraging all campuses to center their DALE! event on non-partisan voter registration and education.
If you are interested in participating in this great event, please do not hesitate to contact me at jhernandez@nclr.org. You can also find more information at http://lideres.nclr.org/events/lead
This is a great opportunity to get the Latino community to march in the most important march of the year--the march to the polls this November! Ya es hora!
Examples of past programs include:
Voter Registration Drive: Conduct a voter registration drive that encourages young Latinos to make their voice heard and send a message to elected officials.
Resource tables: Invite campus organizations, departments, and off-campus community organizations to raise awareness and promote diversity on your campus.
Speakers: Arrange to have speakers address your group and/or schedule speakers to address student body during breaks in the class schedule.
Entertainment: Encourage campus organizations or local artists to perform.
Public forum or round table discussion: Members of your group interact with campus administration, professors, and other students to discuss relevant issues.
Movie viewing party: Hold a discussion session following a movie such as “Walkout” or “Crossing Arizona.”
Disseminate information: Make a list of volunteer opportunities on campus or in the surrounding community and hand it out to students.
Sell t-shirts: Encourage students to wear them on the same day symbolizing the Latino unity on campus.
If you are a high school student who wants to get involved, we encourage you to contact your local university or community college.

For groups who would like guidance and support in how your campus can get involved. Contact Janet Hernandez at jhernandez@nclr.org or (202) 785-1670 for more information or to sign up to participate.
