The Beta Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was founded in the Spring of 1991 by Reina Nuñez, establishing the first Latina sorority at Columbia University. Beta Chapter Hermanas sponsor activities and events that highlight and work to resolve prevalent issues within the Latino community with a special emphasis on the Latina. Since Beta Chapter's inception, Las Hermanas have held a steadfast commitment to fortifying the foundation of the chapter by first building within ourselves and then reaching out to others.

Beta Chapter is comprised of women of diverse origins as well as different goals. We are individualists and independent women who have collaborated to form a tapestry of strength, determination and triumph. Together, we strive to succeed in all our endeavors demonstrating that a group of women with a vision can be a truly powerful force.
