2008 Progressive Leadership Advocacy Network (PLAN) Fellowship


The National Women's Law Center is now accepting applications for the 2008 Progressive Leadership Advocacy Network (PLAN) fellowship.
PLAN is a powerful professional development opportunity designed to improve the advocacy capacity of advocates working to improve the lives of low-income women and their families.

Emerging leaders across the country are encouraged to apply! The deadline for applications is May 15.

The PLAN fellowship experience includes:

· participation in the intensive, four-day PLAN Fall Institute for new fellows

· on-going strategic leadership, policy, and advocacy learning opportunities

· the annual PLAN Spring Institute in Washington, D.C.

· a variety of networking opportunities

· access to individualized technical assistance from NWLC policy and advocacy staff



By strengthening their leadership and advocacy skills, in-depth policy knowledge, and networks of connection in the field, the PLAN fellowship helps advocates effect the positive change they are working to achieve.

Project Ignition


Project Ignition, sponsored by State Farm and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council, is a chance for students and teachers to work together to address the issue of teen driver safety. Support is provided for innovative public awareness, service-learning projects based on teen driver safety developed by students enrolled in grades 9-12 at U.S. public schools. Students must create this project with the support of a teacher or advisor. Twenty-five semi-finalists will receive $2,000 to help put their plan into action in the fall of 2008. Ten finalists will then receive a stipend of up to $5,000 for travel to the National Service-Learning Conference.

The Rising Farmworker Dream Fund Pre-MBA Fellowship


The Rising Farmworker Dream Fund is proud to announce its second annual Pre-MBA Fellowship program. The award is intended to encourage the sons and daughters of farmworkers to purse MBA degrees and in turn, develop more leaders who will channel resources to the U.S. farmworking community. Two categories of awards will be given in 2008:
1) Pre-MBA Fellowship Award--for students applying for an MBA in 2008 (expected graduation 2011)

2) MBA Preparation Fellowship Award--for college Juniors & Seniors interested in pursuing an MBA within 5 years

We encourage students to apply as early as possible since some of the awards will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please read the following terms and requirements carefully to determine eligibility:

White House Internship Program


The White House Internship Program provides an opportunity to learn more about the daily operations of the White House. In addition to normal office duties, interns attend weekly lectures, volunteer at special events, participate in tours, and contribute to a community service project in the Washington, D.C. area. White House Internships are unpaid positions and participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing. Approximately 100 interns are chosen each spring, summer, and fall to participate in this highly competitive program.

Decision 2008 Essay Contest

Scholarship Application Process:
Submit an essay to scholarships@presidentialcandidates.tv answering the following questions:
(PLEASE KEEP YOUR ESSAY UNDER 1500 WORDS)

1.Name the three most important issues that you believe the 44th President of the United States should address.

2.Take one of the issues that you previously mentioned and discuss what should be done to address the issue. (ie: If you picked health care as one of your three issues, then you could mention that America should implement a universal health care plan. However, please be as detailed as possible, as many students may choose the same issue to address.)

3.Lastly, identify which candidate you believe will be the 44th President of the United States and why you believe he/she will be victorious.

Microsoft DigiGirlz High Tech Camp for girls works to dispel stereotypes of the high-tech industry and gives young people a chance to experience firsthand what it is like to develop cutting-edge technology. During the camp, girls are exposed to executive speakers, technology tours and demonstrations, networking and hands-on learning workshops.

Bridgestone Firestone Safety Scholars Competition


Entry in the Contest is available only at www.SafetyScholars.com. Entrants must submit an original video 25 or 55 seconds in length on one or more issues or topics relating to automobile safety. The video should convey effective ways to improve driver safety for drivers ages 16 through 21 and may not contain any work (in whole or in part) which is the subject of a copyright or infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party. Video must be the original work of the entrant.

Each of the ten (10) finalists will receive a set of Bridgestone Firestone tires with an approximate retail value of $750. The three (3) finalists with the highest scores, as determined by on-line voting, each will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

Pay It Forward Mini-Grants


Applications for the first round of Pay It Forward Mini-Grants are currently being accepted. The Pay It Forward Foundation provides these mini-grants to support one-time-only service-oriented projects identified by youth that are meant to benefit their schools, neighborhoods, or greater communities. In order to be considered, applicants must demonstrate that their projects contain a “pay it forward” focus; they must be based on the concept of one person doing a favor for others, who in turn do favors for others, with the results growing exponentially. Mini-grants of up to $500 will be awarded.

Coca-Cola scholars program


This academic year marks the 20th Class of Coca-Cola Scholars. Of the 250 Scholars designated, 50 students will receive awards of $20,000 and 200 students will receive $10,000.

In December Coca-Cola will designate approximately 2,000 semifinalists. These students will be required to complete additional candidacy materials. In March 250 finalists will be notified and invited to Atlanta for interviews in April, during which time students will be awarded $20,000 or $10,000 scholarships.

"Tu Pride" - MTV Tr3s documentary videos


MTV Tr3s needs unique Latinos for documentary image spots

-Do you or your friends show "Tu Pride" by being INVOLVED WITH your COMMUNITY?

MTV Tr3s is shooting documentary image spots about proud bi-cultural Latinos (people with a strong connection to both their American and Latin Heritage or culture) who were raised in the US. We're looking for real people doing real things within their community. In this important election year, MTV Tr3s is especially looking to hear how voting and political issues touch your life. What issues are important to you and your family? How are you involved in voting and getting your voice heard for the future? It can be anything from school leadership to community activism to how you're involved with the upcoming election. If you're politically involved in Latino culture or sub-culture, Tr3s wants to know about it! We're especially looking for those who appear to be in the age range of 15-25 and live in Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego & Las Vegas.
