Event Overview

NCLR's Líderes Initiative is hosting its fifth annual Advocacy Days Congreso for high school and college students, and young professionals at the 2012 NCLR National Latino Advocacy Days.  The Líderes Advocacy Days Congreso helps young people understand NCLR’s national policy agenda and equips them with the tools they need to be advocates for the Latino Community.

Every year, this Congreso is held in conjunction with the events of the 2012 NCLR National Latino Advocacy Days (March 6-8), a two-day event that provides policy briefings on current issues affecting the Latino community.  Congreso attendees will be inspired and empowered as they identify ways to increase their civic engagement. Bringing together more than 100 high school and college youth, the Congreso will feature peer-led workshops and guest speakers, including NCLR staff and community leaders, to inform and support the efforts of young Latinos.

Following the Congreso, the 2012 NCLR National Latino Advocacy Days will bring together hundreds of leaders from Latino nonprofit and civic organizations throughout the country, offering a unique opportunity to make our voices heard on Capitol Hill on the vital issues impacting Hispanic Americans. During the event, representatives from NCLR Affiliates and partner organizations will receive intensive training on policy and legislative advocacy, learn about key federal policy issues affecting the Latino community, and build relationships with their members of Congress through legislative visits on Capitol Hill.
